Introduction to the Features of Different Types of Kitchen Cabinet Hinges_Hinge Knowledge 2

Kitchen cabinet hinges can be categorized into two main types: visible and intangible. Visible hinges are those that are displayed on the outside of the cabinet door, while intangible hinges are concealed within the door. However, some hinges fall somewhere in between, partially hidden from view. These hinges come in various finishes, such as chrome and brass, and the choice of style and shape depends on the design of the cabinet.

The most basic type of hinge is the butt hinge, which lacks decorative elements. These hinges are rectangular in shape with a central hinge section and holes on each side for grub screws. Despite the lack of ornamentation, butt hinges are versatile and can be mounted either inside or outside of cabinet doors.

Reverse bevel hinges are designed to fit at a 30-degree angle. They feature a square metal shape on one side of the hinge portion. These hinges provide a clean and sleek look to kitchen cabinets as they allow doors to open towards the rear corners, eliminating the need for external door handles or pulls.

Surface mount hinges are fully visible and attached using button head screws. They cover half of the enclosure surface on both the frame and the door. Some of these hinges have beautiful embossed or rolled shapes that resemble butterflies, hence being called butterfly hinges. Despite their decorative appearance, surface mount hinges are relatively simple to install.

Another type is the recessed cabinet hinge, specifically designed for cabinet doors. These hinges are meant to be hidden and are not visible when the cabinet is closed.

In conclusion, kitchen cabinet hinges play an essential role in both functionality and aesthetics. They come in a range of options, including visible and concealed hinges, each with its own unique features and purposes. The choice of hinge depends on the design of the cabinet and the desired look and feel.
