The British Directors Association was established in 1903 and is one of the most prestigious business associations in the UK. John McLean, the new chairman of the London Branch of the British Board of Directors, said that the Chinese market is very important to British companies and he believes that the two sides will strengthen cooperation in many areas.

McLean said that with Britain leaving the European Union, British companies need to "look east." The Chinese economy continues to grow and there are more and more middle-class consumer groups, which is very attractive to British companies. With the gradual recovery of the tourism industry from the new crown epidemic and the gradual increase in personnel exchanges, the UK and China will further strengthen economic cooperation.

Talking about the potential areas of cooperation between Britain and China, McLean said that the two countries have broad prospects for cooperation in the fields of global finance and innovation, green industry and environment, and healthcare.

William Russell, the mayor of the City of London, said in an interview that the City of London looks forward to maintaining a strong relationship with relevant Chinese institutions and jointly promoting green finance cooperation.

Speaking of China's financial industry becoming more open, Russell said that this is good news. "We hope that as the (opening) door opens wider and wider, we continue to cooperate with China. We hope that more Chinese financial companies will come to London to set up offices."
