Design Scheme of Hinged Support Tooling in Bulk Carrier Hold_Knowledge

Abstract: The construction of a bulk carrier involves reinforcing the 4th and 5th groups of compartments in the cargo hold area, which form the main section of the starboard and port sides. Traditionally, this reinforcement requires the use of channel steel or tooling during hoisting, leading to material wastage, increased man-hours, and safety hazards. To overcome these challenges, a hinged support tooling design is proposed, combining the reinforcement material and support pipe into one unit. This design aims to save material costs, reduce manpower, and enhance efficiency in the construction process.

The construction of a 209,000-ton bulk carrier represents a major project for our company. The reinforcement of the cargo hold area's main sections on the starboard and port sides involves significant material and labor waste due to the use of I-beams or channel steels. Additionally, the support pipe in the cabin is too high to be easily lifted from the outside, potentially causing damage to the hatch structure. To address these issues, a design scheme for hinged support tooling in the bulk carrier cabin has been formulated. This design aims to integrate reinforcement and support functions, thereby reducing material waste, manpower requirements, and costs.

2.1 Design of Double-Hanging Type Support Seat:

Key Design Points:

1. Add a square backing plate (726mm x 516mm) to the existing D-45, a=310 hanging yards.

2. Maintain a 64mm distance between the double hanging codes, ensuring sufficient space for the hanging codes to insert into the support tube.

3. Improve strength and prevent deformation and tearing by installing a square bracket (104mm x 380mm) between the double hanging codes and a square bottom plate (476mm x 380mm) at the end of the hanging code.

4. Ensure full welding between the double crane type support cushion plate and the cargo hold hatch longitudinal girder.

2.2 Design of Hinged Support Tube:

Key Design Points:

1. Design the upper end of the support pipe with a plug-in pipe hanging code, allowing it to rotate by fixing it with a bolt.

2. Facilitate hoisting by incorporating plug-in hoisting earrings at the upper and lower ends of the support tube, which can also function as lifting rings, lifting plates, and pull rings.

3. Increase the force-bearing areas of the upper and lower ends by including circular backing plates to withstand pressure and tension.

How to Use:

1. Install double-hanging code support seats in the 5th group and eye plates in the 4th group during large-scale erection.

2. Use a truck crane to hoist the hinged support pipe using the upper and lower earrings after the outer plates of the 4th and 5th groups serve as the base surface for horizontal general assembly. This strengthens the C-shaped general section.

3. After hoisting and loading the general section of the side, remove the steel plate connecting the lower end of the support tube and the 4th group. Slowly loosen the wire rope using the eye plate until the support pipe hangs down perpendicular to the inner bottom.

4. Insert the lower earrings into the oil pump to adjust the positioning height, transforming the tooling into cabin support.

5. Remove the hinged support tube from the cabin using the upper earrings once it is no longer needed.

Improvement Effects and Benefit Analysis:

The hinged support tooling offers several benefits:

1. Enables installation during the sub-section assembly stage, reducing hoisting requirements and saving man-hours.

2. Eliminates the need for auxiliary tooling, welding, and cutting operations during the reinforcement and support switching process, resulting in cost and time savings.

3. Provides dual functions of temporary reinforcement during hoisting and load-bearing adjustment during loading and positioning.

4. Reusable tooling, promoting resource efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

5. AOSITE Hardware, renowned for providing exceptional customer service, has gained recognition for certification attainment at home and abroad.

The introduction of hinged support tooling in bulk carrier construction offers significant advantages, including cost and time reduction, material efficiency, and enhanced safety.
