Abstract: The construction of bulk carriers involves the use of double-hanging support seats and hinged support tubes. These components are crucial in strengthening the structure and preventing deformation of the cargo hold area. However, the traditional method of hoisting and loading these materials is time-consuming, costly, and poses safety hazards. To address these issues, a hinged support tooling design for bulk carrier cabins has been developed, aiming to streamline the hoisting process, reduce material waste, and improve overall efficiency.
1.
In 2015, the construction of a 209,000-ton bulk carrier became the flagship project of the 4# dock. However, the loading and hoisting of the main section of the cargo hold area posed challenges due to the need for extensive reinforcement using I-beams or channel steels. This led to significant material waste and increased labor hours. Additionally, hoisting the support pipe from the outside of the hatch proved difficult due to its height and potential damage to the hatch structure. To overcome these obstacles, a design was proposed to combine the reinforcement material and support pipe into one, thereby saving materials, manpower, and resources while ensuring structural integrity.
2. Design Scheme
2.1 Design of Double-Hanging Support Seats
Key design points for the double-hanging support seats include:
- Adding a square backing plate to enhance strength and prevent deformation.
- Optimizing the distance between the double hanging codes for easy insertion of the support tube.
- Installing square brackets and bottom plates between the hanging codes to further improve strength and stability.
- Ensuring full welding between the support cushion plate and the cargo hold hatch longitudinal girder.
2.2 Design of Hinged Support Tubes
Design features of the hinged support tubes include:
- Incorporating a plug-in pipe hanging code at the upper end to allow for rotation.
- Adding plug-in hoisting earrings at the upper and lower ends for easy lifting.
- Enhancing the force-bearing area by introducing circular backing plates at the upper and lower ends.
3. How to use
- Install double-hanging support seats during the large-scale erection stage.
- Use truck cranes to hoist and strengthen the hinged support pipe, creating a C-shaped general section.
- After hoisting and loading, remove the steel plate connecting the support tube to the cargo hold area.
- Adjust the positioning height of the support tube using the lower earrings.
- Utilize the support tube as a cabin support during loading and positioning.
- Lift the hinged support tube out of the cabin using the upper earrings when no longer needed.
4. Improvement Effect and Benefit Analysis
The hinged support tooling design offers several benefits, including:
- Streamlining the installation process, saving labor hours.
- Eliminating the need for auxiliary tooling, reducing crane time, and saving costs.
- Providing dual functions of temporary reinforcement and load-bearing adjustment.
- Allowing for reuse of the support tooling, enhancing cost-effectiveness.
